9 Simple Snack Ideas You will Love

When it comes to healthy eating, most people focus on the main meals but they often overlook snacks. And let’s be real, when the mid-afternoon munchies sneak in, a good snack is essential to helping us power through the rest of our afternoon and make it to dinner.

Does this scene sound familiar? You’re hungry, but you don’t have anything healthy to eat and dinner is still a few hours away. So you grab something fast, and then – oops! – when it’s finally time to eat, you realize you STILL don’t have healthy foods around. So you grab another something. And you feel kind of bad about it, and vow to start all over again – after you make time for a trip to the grocery store to buy some healthy food for the house.

We all have been there at one point or another. The question is, how many times does it have to happen before you put an end to it? I know I say it all the time, but PLANNING is the key to success. Without it, you’re always relying on willpower and when that doesn’t work, you’re starting over.

Taking 15 or 20 minutes to sketch out a meal plan will not just save you time and money, but it will also keep you from feeling like a failure because your willpower sucks and end the cycle of starting over every morning or every Monday. As a bonus, meal planning will save you from waiting even longer for the results you want from your workouts.

The important thing is to make your meal plan REALISTIC, and snacks are part of everyday life, so those should be planned, too!

Here’s a list of snacks you can stash in a desk drawer, office fridge/cooler bag, a laptop bag or tote.

  • Cut-up fresh fruit
  • Hummus (or guacamole!) and veggies
  • Nuts (cashews, pecans, walnuts, etc.) in snack-sized portions
  • Tuna in a pouch
  • Protein bar (check out RX, Kind or Quest Bars)
  • Hard-boiled eggs stuffed with guacamole
  • Quality meat jerky (read the ingredients)
  • Protein powder + PB2 powder + bottled water = Smoothie on the go
  • Roasted chickpeas

Having snacks on standby means you aren’t left scrambling with a growling stomach, searching for something healthy to eat. That’s exactly why I put together the Meal Planning Club. The Club will give you a framework for your nutrition, so you’re never left hanging, and you aren’t always planning your next do-over.
